Uninor shuts down its business in Mumbai! The news was in the air for sometime. Finally Unitech and Telenor join venture are shutting down their business in Mumbai which is strictly taking effect from 16th February. In last years 2G scam Uninor lost their license in Mumbai. According to Supreme Court order the company has to stop their business at some time. Now 18 lakh customers will be affected unless they are porting their numbers to carriers.
This is what Managing Director of Uninor said in a statement to the press-
“We have pursued every alternative possible to continue our operations in Mumbai until the new auction takes place. Unfortunately, we have no choice now but to follow the Court’s order and close down our network immediately,”
Currently Uninor holds the spectrum of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujrat, Maharashtra & Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata. Apart from Kolkata rest of the regions will be served by the company as they own a 20 year license in these 6 circles. In some other circles like West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu Uninor has to stop their services.
