Alcatel was known for a large part of its history as a low end handset maker and now it’s starting to operate in the higher end area, years after being bought by an Asian firm. Today, at MWC 2013 in Barcelona they’ve unveiled a very hot model, with high end specs, called the One Touch Idol X.

Alcatel One Touch Idol X is the first full HD phablet that equips a quad core processor. Currently the craze of full HD smartphones is very high in market. Therefore, all manufacturers have started showcasing their high-end products in one of the largest tech festivals; it’s none other than Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona Spain. Anyway, Alcatel is not known for producing high-end devices. This time they have opted for MediaTek MT6589 which is not too powerful but a decent one to be exact. There is a 13 MP rear camera that records full HD video. I haven’t mentioned that Alcatel One Touch Idol X is built on Android 4.2 JellyBean.

This is also a pretty thin device, at merely 7.1 mm in thickness, just like the Motorola Droid RAZR. There’s no LTE on board and a US debut seems very unlikely right now. The phone will be launching around July, although the exact date or price aren’t known.

Features of Alcatel One Touch Idol X :

  • OS: Android 4.2 JellyBean
  • SoC: 1.2 GHz Quad Cortex A7, MediaTek MT6589
  • Display: 5 inch Full HD
  • Storage: 16 GB, micro SD
  • Battery: 2000 mAh
  • Camera: 13 MP rear
  • Data: HSPA+ speed up to 42 Mbps
  • Navigation: A-GPS, GLONASS
  • Dimension: 7.1 mm thickness
Pricing and release date of Alcatel One Touch Idol X is now indicated in the press event. You can expect the phablet by the second quarter this year. But it looks like Alcatel will join the bloody quad core budget war soon in India.

Iocean X7  or OuSheng X7 is spotted in the wild. This time images are pretty sharp and you should get the feeling that it’s a premium smartphone that is expected to be shipped in Indian market at an amazingly low price tag. According to  Gizchina  the droid could be priced 999 Yuan or $160 USD which means in India you can expect the phablet for as low as Rs 9000. Iocean also mentioned the same in their official mailer last week. Release date is not mentioned, but you can expect it by March. As I already mentioned in my previous post it sports 5 inch Full HD display at 441 ppi, 13 MP camera, quad core MediaTek MT6589 SoC, 2 GB RAM and of course Android 4.1 JellyBean out of the box. Do you need anything else in this budget? In China few lucky users are able to get their hands in to this lovely little piece of smartphone. Iocean is expected to ship review copies soon. But I haven’t received any official news from their end as of now.
